What The Customer Needs To Do

Our thermographers require access to all electrical cabinets from the supply point into the main switchboard, downstream to distribution boards, machine control centres, and minor panels. Electrical circuits should be operating at least at normal load, and preferably at peak load – i.e. quiet periods after hours or during down time are not usually appropriate for Thermography.

The customer therefore needs to assure themself that electrical systems are at least under a reasonable working load. They may also need to arrange induction, pass keys, and security clearance for Thermographers, and advise managers or tenants etc as appropriate for their installation regarding the upcoming survey. Note that power does not normally require interruption.

Where possible we prefer that a member of the client’s on site electrical maintenance staff (if they have one) accompany us, at least during initial parts of a survey. While this is not essential, we do find it ensures appropriate access, minimises delays, clarifies electrical loads involved, and gives reassurance and a point of contact to the customer's staff not immediately involved in the survey.

Such issues vary with the nature of the site. It may benefit maintenance staff required to take corrective action if they are on hand when the faults are detected. And steps taken to shorten our time on site allow us to minimise our charges too.
